ICA MEMBER GATEWAY INSULATION: LONG ISLAND LEADER IN PUBLIC PROJECTS

Farmingdale, New York-based Gateway Insulation has been a major player in Long Island public works projects for the past 30 years. The company is currently involved with jobs in numerous local school districts including West Islip, Valley Stream, Locust Valley, Hauppauge and Lindenhurst.

Gateway is also slated to begin new public works projects for Three Village School District, NC Cedar Creek Water Treatment Control Plant and the Federal Aviation Administration facility in Westbury. As budgets get cut, these facilities attempt to reduce their overall operating cost by conserving energy. Outdated steam heating and cooling systems are replaced with more efficient hot water systems that are specified to be insulated as per the NYS Energy Code.

Public work projects comprise about 80% of Gateway’s overall business, estimates Al Duranti, who stated,“I expect them to become an even greater share of the overall market. With the downturn of our economy private projects are drying up. Local and state municipalities that received stimulus money from the federal government have earmarked these funds toward energy conservation projects that should be a source of work for our trade.” When asked if work on a publicly funded project differs significantly from a private job, Al says no. “There is a little bit more administrative work which is offset by the need for less on sight supervision.”

Gateway Insulation has been a union insulation contractor for the past 22 years that has worked on various public works projects in the New York Metropolitan area. For more information, please contact Al Duranti at gatewayinsulation@gmail.com.
